A Chihuahua in a Wheelchair & a Silkie Chicken – BFFs For Life

Next we have a touching story between a silkie chicken and a chihuahua puppy.

Penny, a silk chicken, was a test subject in a laboratory where she was experimented on. Not fun to say the least. Just as the experiments were done and the lab had no further use of Penny, Alicia Williams happened to come across the chicken and, not wanting to see Penny disposed of, she offered to take her home with her. Not wanting Penny to be home alone all day, Alicia started taking Penny to work with her at the Duluth Animal Hospital in Duluth, Georgia.

Roo, a chihuahua puppy, was born deformed, with two little stubs that did not fully develop into front legs. He was found on a cold night in a ditch, quietly freezing to death, and brought in to the Duluth Animal Hospital where he received the care he needed. A special wheelchair was made to help him get around.

When Roo and Penny met in the hospital, the two hit it off and became inseparable. They play together, nap together, eat together, and cuddle together – a lot.

“The first time they met, he immediately pounced on her, chewing on her feathers, chewing on her feet, rolling around as if she was another puppy,” said Alicia Williams.  “She was so tolerant of him, she didn’t get upset with him.  When he had settled down and fallen asleep in the bed, she actually waddled over and climbed on top of him, and sat on him as if he were a chick.  That was how they slept the first time they met, so it was an instant connection.”

“They get along really well. Penny gets excited when Roo is around because she knows he’s got treats and food all of the time. Whenever she hears him being fed, she steals his food. He loves snuggling with her because that’s his big teddy bear. He runs over her sometimes because he doesn’t realize how big his wheels are.”
